Hosted by Maka Flora Chapter
Pioneer Plants
July 16-18, 2010
Birch Creek Center, Pioneer Mountains, Montana
Participants had a great time exploring the beautiful Pioneer Mountains in southwestern Montana! A variety of field trips satisfied everyone's level of exploration. The Birch Creek Center is a large and spacious facility that formerly functioned as a Civil Conservation Corps (CCC) site in the 1930s that served as a wonderful setting for the conference. Friday's campfire featured Lee Harry discussing the "Columbus Tree" and influence of Pine Bark Beetle and Spruce Bud Worm on our forests. Saturday evening's program featured Andrea Sterile and her ethnobotanical work with Montana native plants.
