Native Plant Landscaping Packet for the Flathead Area

We have compiled a packet that includes many articles about landscaping with native plants in the Flathead Area.  The contents of the packet are listed below, and those that are underlined are available simply by clicking on the title (they will download to your computer as PDF files, which require Adobe Acrobat, which you can download for free from www.adobe.com)

Most contents of the Flathead Native Plant Landscaping packet are also available for free at MNPS Flathead Chapter programs, which are held at 7 pm October-April on the third Wednesday of the month.  (Click here for a schedule of events).  There is a $1 charge (to cover copying) for hard copies of Recommended Species for Native Plant Landscaping in the Flathead.

If you would like the entire packet mailed to you, send $5 (checks made payable to MNPS), to:

Tara Carolin, 334 N. Many Lakes Drive, Kalispell, MT 59901.

Contents of the Packet include:

  • Creating Native Landscapes  This is a comprehensive guide developed by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service Bridger Plant Materials Center.

  • Guidelines for Collecting Native Plants -The Montana Native Plant Society discourages the digging of native plants. However in some cases, collecting native plants may be justified. These guidelines were developed to help those wishing to collect native plant materials do so without damaging our native plant populations and communities.
  • Firewise Landscaping for Woodland Homes -A brochure published by the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, which contains information of how to create a defensible space around your home and how to landscape with fire in mind.
  • Weed Control Practices  -A brochure about Montana's noxious weeds to help you identify and control weeds on your property.
  • Lists of native plant materials available from local nurseries
  • Montana Native Plant Society membership brochure
